Music at St. Peter Church MUSIC DIRECTOR Our Music Director at St. Peter's is Marie F. Lenox. She comes to us from Holy Cross Parish in Fairfield, Connecticut where she had been employed as music director since 1996. A recent move to Torrington precipitated her search for a new position closer to home. Originally from the Detroit, Michigan area, Marie began formal piano studies at the Detroit Conservatory of Music, and continued piano and organ studies in Detroit at the Felician Academy under Sr. Cecelia, and at Immaculata High School under Sr. Marie David, IHM. Following high school, Marie pursued professional organ studies with Dr. E. Richard Wissmueller and harmony and music theory under Dr. August Maeckelberg. She is a mother of four children, and her youngest son, Peter, was recently ordained into the priesthood. INSTRUMENTS ORGAN: The pipe organ at St. Peter's was purchased and installed during the 1930's. It has seen a lot here at St. Peter's, and is now being used weekly to lead the choir and congregation in singing.
GUITAR: We at St. Peter's are also very fortunate to have Sr. Annette, who is a very talented guitar player and singer. Everyone loves listening to her, and her recordings have become a hit within the parish.
SINGERS SR. ANNETTE & FR. STEPHEN: When St. Peter's Church was joined with Sacred Heart parish in Torrington, Fr. Stephen was assigned as Associate Pastor of the two parishes. It didn't take long before Sr. Annette and Fr. Stephen discovered they both had a very special gift from God: they both had beautiful voices for singing. Before long they were singing together at Masses, and everyone immediately fell in love with them. This led to a recording of the two of them, which has become very popular both in and outside our parish community. ST. PETER CHOIR: St. Peter's choir is "up and running", leading the singing during weekend Masses. CHILDREN: We also have many talented young members of the parish who occasionally, under the direction of Sr. Annette, help make Masses special by leading the singing, usually being accompanied by the piano.
RECORDINGS "SISTER ANNETTE SINGS" SERIES: As mentioned above, Sr. Annette is a very talented singer and is well known and loved by the parish and even those outside the parish who have heard her sing. She decided, therefore, to help "lighten" people's spirits by recording several cassette tapes. The titles of them are "Religious Favorites" (including Amazing Grace, Ave Maria, The Lord's Prayer, Let There Be Peace on Earth, and more totaling 10 in all); "Inspirational Songs" (How Great Thou Art, There's Something About His Name, Bridge Over Troubled Water, One Moment in Time, and more totaling 13 in all); "Easy Listening" (Heal the World, Unforgettable, Phantom of the Opera Melody, We Are the World, and more totaling 11 in all); "Secular Favorites" (Over the Rainbow, Tomorrow, The Greatest Love of All, and more totaling 10 in all); "Magic Melodies" (When You Wish Upon a Star, A Whole New World, The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Mi, and more totaling 11 in all; "Christmas Favorites 1" (Joy to the World, Silent Night, Home for the Holidays, White Christmas, and more totaling 15 in all); and "Christmas Favorites 2" (O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, Let it Snow!, If Every Day Was Christmas, and more totaling 14 in all). All cassettes are available at St. Peter School for $10 each.* "SONGS FOR THE SPIRIT": Sr. Annette and Fr. Stephen together sing beautiful inspirational songs that will lift your spirit. Accompanied by the piano, the collection includes You Are Mine, Loving and Forgiving, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, On Eagle's Wings, and more totaling 12 in all. Available at St. Peter School in CD or cassette. CD's - $15; Cassettes - $10.* "SISTER ANNETTE SINGS" ON CD!!: Sister Annette Sings tapes are now available on CD!! There are 3 to choose from and are a compilation of her previously recorded cassettes. The titles are "Christmas Favorites", "Greatest Hits", and "Religious and Inspirational".
