FROM FATHER GERRY’S DESKHi Everybody! “He has done all things well,” they say of Jesus as they witness the amazing good deeds he did for those in need. So excited were they about Jesus, his teaching and his actions that not even Jesus himself could stop them from proclaiming far and wide this good news! When he sent his disciples into the world to proclaim the Good News, that was the kind of excitement he expected from them, and they certainly did not let the Lord down. With determination, resolution and fervor they set off to the furthest reaches of the world, as they knew it then. Not hardship, nor deprivation, not even the possibility of death could deter them from fulfilling the mission the Lord gave them. If only we could have that kind of motivation as we go about the daily duties, understanding them to be all part of the mission and calling given to us by God. We can get so enthusiastic about all sorts of lesser or even trivial things, why not about the Lord. Maybe this time of returning from vacations and getting back to work is a good time to focus in on doing our work, fulfilling our duties primarily to please the Lord! God Bless You One and All ……… Father Gerry
STEWARDSHIP SUGGESTIONStewardship is a way of life based on the Gospel. How do I make it my way of life? I take to heart the opening words of Psalm 24: “The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it.” So, I try handling the time, talents, skills and resources I have as gifts belonging to God!
STEWARDSHIP INITIATIVE: Sunday Evening Vespers Vespers, The Evening Prayer of the Church, with Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, are celebrated twice monthly at 6:00 p.m. – on the 2nd Sunday of the month at St. Peter Church and the 4th Sunday of the month at Sacred Heart Church. This is an opportunity to join together in prayer and spend a little more time with the Lord than we are obliged to do. Everyone is welcome to join us: Sunday, September 14 at St. Peter ChurchSunday, September 28 at Sacred Heart Church

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) names the process by which interested persons are gradually awakened to discern if God is calling them to become members of the Catholic Church. The RCIA journey is primarily a journey of faith: “From the awareness of stirring of faith and curiosity within one’s heart Through all those stages of asking and seeking, Through beginning involvement with Catholic people, Through hearing the Gospel proclaimed and by faithful reflection and prayer on this Word of God. Through study and discussion about the Catholic experience, Through doubts and hesitations, Through discernment of God’s call for them as individuals, Through steps of commitment, Through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), to a life of faith, love and justice in communion with Catholics throughout the world.” We will begin this process in September. For information, call St. Peter Rectory at 482-4433 or fill in the form below, drop it in the collection basket, and someone will contact you.

ST. EDMUND’S RETREAT DAY TRIPSt. Edmund’s Retreat Day of Recollection at Enders Island in Mystic, CT will depart from Sacred Heart Church, 116 Grove St. at 7:30 a.m. on September 23. This bus trip is sponsored by The Franciscan’s, St. Frances Cabrini and St. Anne’s Society. A Family Perspective The deaf man in the gospel KNEW he was deaf and asked Jesus to help him. We are often deaf to one another and don’t know it. We hurt others when we listen but do not hear. Take a tip from the deaf man; recognize your deafness and then ask God to heal you.
