Faith Commitments - (8th Grade and Confirmation Class)

Faith Commitments are an integral part of our Faith Formation program.

While participating in these faith based and community service events you are living your Catholic Faith and following the Corporal Works of Mercy. In order for these events to be successful we do need your cooperation.To sign up for the monthly faith commitments please either call Donna Puzacke at 489-7899 or email your request to torringtonconfirmation@yahoo.com  

  • Faith Commitments will be posted on the website by the 25th of the month.
  • Signups must be made prior to the first of every month.
  • Students please check with your parents to confirm your schedule allows you to be at the event you are interested in, prior to sign up.
  • Students please make the phone calls yourself.
  • Please leave your name, phone number and the faith commitment you are signing up for if you get the recording.
  • If an unforeseen change in your plans occurs you must call 860-489-7899 to reschedule prior to the event.
  • If a Faith Commitment lists a request for adult participation please ask your parents if they would like to join us and sign them up when you call to make your reservation.
  • Name tags must be worn at all Faith Commitments

Although we did give minimum requirements for the amount of Faith Commitments each student participates in throughout the year, there is no maximum. Please consider signing up as often as you would like and we hope you will participate in some of our repeat commitments at least once during the year.

Friday, January 6th

Eucharistic Adoration
Sacred Heart Church

7:00 - 8:00 pm

Come spend an hour in prayer before the very presence of Our Lord exposed in the Eucharist on the Altar. You can have some quiet time alone with Jesus to pray, read the bible or just sit and reflect on what is in your heart that you would like to share with Him. A reflection sheet will be provided to help you if you need it.

 


Saturday, January 7th

Thrift Shop Assistance

St. Peter/St. Francis School

11:00 - 1:00

We need 2 students to help at the Cluster run thrift shop, greeting and assisting customers and helping organize donations. A genuine ability to enjoy interacting with others is necessary for this faith commitment.

Catholic Babysitting

Sacred Heart Rectory 6:30-8:30

We will offer our assistance to parents attending Deacon Jim’s “Open Hearts” program for adults at Sacred Heart Rectory. This isn’t your normal babysitting. We will read them stories from the children’s bible. Play faith based games and have a fun time for all. This Faith commitment is limited to 4 students and we need 1 parent to sign up to assist.

 

Saturday, January 14th

Prepare the meal for the shelter

St. Peter Hall 1-3:30

We will prepare an entire hot meal and homemade dessert to be delivered to the St Vincent DePaul Shelter.  Each student is asked to make $10.00 donation towards the purchase of the food we will prepare. Please bring a potato peeler and a paring knife if you have one. This Faith Commitment is limited to 12 students and we need 2 parents to sign up to assist us.

 

Saturday, January 14th

Serve the evening meal - St. Vincent DePaul Shelter

4:30-8:30

We will serve the meal (that was prepared earlier by our students) at the St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, Waterbury to approx. 100 people. Each student is asked to make a $5.00 donation toward the purchase of the food for the meal. We will meet at St. Peter Church Hall at 5:00PM and leave the Shelter at approx. 8:30PM. Transportation will be provided. This Faith Commitment is limited to 3 boys & 3 girls We need 2 parents to assist us for the evening and 1 parent to be willing to drive.

Rally for Life

9:00am Hartford

Take a stand against abortion. Join us as we travel to St. Joseph Cathedral in Hartford for a Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Mansell.  After Mass we will march to the State Capital with  teens, adults, young and old from all over the state to rally in a prayerful way on the 39th anniversary weekend of the legalization of abortion in  the USA . We will then proceed into the State Capital to listening to inspiring pro-life talks. Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, this is our chance to make a statement that we are PRO-LIFE.

All are welcome to attend, we will leave Torrington  at 8am and will make a fast food lunch stop on the way home.

 

 

Sunday, January 22nd

Eucharistic Minister Assistance

at Valerie Manor

9:00 - 10:15

Assist our Eucharistic Ministers as they bring Holy Communion to the Catholic residents at Valerie Manor.  Come with a smile and a willingness to interact with the residents at the convalescent home. Please come dressed appropriately to represent the Torrington Cluster and be present with Christ in the Eucharist. This Faith commitment is limited to 2 students per visit. Meet at St Francis Church and you will be driven to Valerie Manor.

 

 

Monday, January 23rd

Rachel Rosary at St. Francis Church 7pm

In conjunction with the 39th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade when abortion was legalized in the United States we will  join together in a guided lesson on praying the rosary and offering our intentions for the victims of abortion and post abortion syndrome. Families of students are welcome to attend this event. We scheduled this to coincide with the pro-life march in Washington D.C.

 

Saturday, January 28th

Coffee & Conversation

10-11:15am at Paradigm Healthcare

Join us as we spread some holiday cheer when we  gather together with the residents of Paradigm Health Care at 80 Fern Dr. to assist serving coffee and visiting with the residents. We need 4 students and 1 parent to assist.


Saturday, January 28th

Valerie Manor Ice Cream Social

1:45-3:15

We will join the residents of Valerie Manor for an ice cream social. We will assist by transporting the residents to and from the party as well serving the ice cream and visiting with the residents. Please only sign up if you will be comfortable sitting and socializing with the residents.  We need 6 students and 1 parent to commit to this event.
